The Mummy and coffin of Tuthmosis IV

18th Dynasty

Length of Coffin : 1.89 metres

Height of coffin : 0.63 metres

The coffin itself is dates to the 20th Dynasty, is made from sycamore but does not display any royal insignia (which probably means it was originally made for a non-royal burial).

Apart from the face (painted red), the coffin was painted white - the band of hieroglyphics running down the front of the coffin gives the names and titles of the king.

The mummy revealed Tuthmosis IV to be slightly balding and was about 30 when he died (his body was extremely emaciated which may have been caused by a disease which eventually killed the king - although this is not known for certain).
