This grand palace was built on the western side of the Royal Road (and is thought to have then covered all the open ground down to the Nile). Little remains from the original palace now - the stone was robbed out after the city was deserted, but the impression remains of a grand palace still with religious overtones. The southern end was found a huge addition to the palace - a coronation hall built for Akhenaten's co-regent and successor, Smenkhkare (it contained 544 brick columns). |
